Transport to and from Mississippi is relatively a good location for auto carriers in the East and West corridor. The location along the I-20, I-59, I-55 and I-10 works great for the East to West and North to South route for traffic. However there are some locations off there routes that can be difficult. These are the things that our auto transport specialist knowledge can work with to assist and complete your auto transport smoothly and cost effectively for you.
A Brief History of Mississippi
- Before becoming a part of the United States, the area now known as Mississippi was controlled by the Spanish, French, and British and one time or another. Once Mississippi was admitted as a state in 1817, the state began to grow rapidly as more and more plantation owners moved to the area. Cotton was especially popular and was grown on many plantations throughout the state, and cities such as Natchez and Vicksburg were considered vital ports along the Mississippi River. The state seceded from the Union in early 1861 and was a founding member of the Confederate States of America. This decision would have a resounding impact on the state for the next century and more; the state’s economy was devastated during the conflict and afterwards regrowth and reconstruction proceeded slowly, as many of the men in power did little to help the state grow economically. Today Mississippi is one of the most rural states in the U.S. – it’s largest city (and capital), Jackson, has a population of 175,000.
What to Expect when Shipping to or from Mississippi
- As the state of Mississippi is decidedly rural, there are not as many popular auto transport locations inside the state, and the lack of large populated areas does not help the cause. Transporting a vehicle into or out of Mississippi is far from impossible – plenty of carriers run along routes that go into, out of and through Mississippi almost every day. However, the only east-west interstate that runs through Mississippi is I-20, which runs through the middle of the state and passes through Jackson, and the only major north-south interstate that runs the length of the state is I-55, which connects New Orleans in Louisiana with Memphis, Tennessee and St. Louis, Missouri. You should expect prices to or from smaller, more rural areas of Mississippi a bit more expensive to transport from and to, but if you’re shipping to a city such as Jackson, Vicksburg or Gulfport, you probably won’t have too many problems.
